Band: Dharma

Kevyn Green (Dharma) has made an art of transforming herself into a series of seemingly classic horror characters chanting cryptic lyrics through manipulated vocals to give a haunting appeal. The song Material Equivalence opens up with high-energy pop beats that morph into a schitzophrenic chaos of sound, carefully constructed to allow the two to combine. When listening to it, I mentally revisit her last show at the Doom House. What I saw was a dark-haired girl wrapped in rags half the time chanting and moving like a marionette and screaming into peoples' faces. Her performance is theatrical and wonderfully awkward, seducing the audience with mechanical movements to great danceable electronic beats and creepy, muffled vocals. Good to listen to at home, in a car, at a party, in a park. I highly suggest checking out her album and catch one of her shows.
