Band: Daughters of the Sun

While like so many other bands, one could describe Daughters of the Sun as guitar driven rock with elements of many different styles that span from lost in thought to anger and intent; so much would be lost if it were left to that. The songs on their reissue of Visions of the Ocean Head are big but not overly cluttered with notes. The space given to the melodies and patterns sets these songs aside. They seem to have nothing to prove with their complexity but instead say exactly what they need to without over stepping their bounds. Clean and eerily calm.

Their layered tonal values of vocal patterns mix through melodies that create a sense of calm that can be felt throughout the whole album. These large sweeping songs carry you through dramatic swells that bring motion to the music and pulls you through explosive tantric release in the end.

I have personally found that this is best listened to very loudly.

(Motherland has to be one of my favorite songs on this album, its seems to be more of a audible movement of thought then an actual song and I feel that it exemplifies the kind of music one listens to while laying down in a near meditative state. The kind of music to experience, not just listen to.)
