Band: Old Snack
Old Snack is another bit of awesomeness made up of members from Delmore Pilcrow, Burnt Sienna Trio, and Current Leaves. With a combination like that, it sounds kind of like how you would expect it to only a bit more rockin. It took me a while to see them for the first time and had heard rumors of short 3 song sets lasting 12 minutes, something most bands are not good enough to pull off. Only later learning that if anyone out there was able to play a short set and still make you want to buy the album, it would be Old Snack
We saw them play at Rubber Gloves a few weeks ago, and they started the set with the drummer calling out three songs and they played them back to back (without breaks between the songs.) I figured it was over and was pretty disappointed because it was hell of awesome. Then drummer yells out 3 or 4 more songs, they do it again, and it is awesome again.
Honestly, I was expecting to hear something a lot less fun to listen to. This is not to say that I was not expecting the talent to be present, just that I was not expecting the musicians to reinvent themselves in this way. I know that probably sounds like a low blow but we have all seen some band out there make a minor change to their line up and do pretty much what they always had, all the while expecting people to fall all over themselves while the band tries to re-ride the hey-everybody-look-at-us-we-are-a-new-band wave, but I digress. Old Snack really pulls through Kicking ass from start to finish. It really shows off the caliber of musicians that these guys are. They are straight not F'in around!
The song Dial M For Snack has a lot more going on in it than I picked up on at the show. The thing that surprised me the most is that there are a lot of notes being played and it never sounds muddy, too busy, or any other negative thing that a lot of notes usually brings with it. After listening to it about ten times in a row I like it more each time.
I've seen these guys twice and loved it. Rumor has it that they are working on an album, which is sure to be a killer. Memebers:
