Band: John Gillespie

What to say about anonymous electronica? I could go with "sounds like a soundtrack for a short film that's never been made," "minimalist", or I could try to actually care about the minute distinctions between techno, house, or IDM. I dislike judging electronic music on different standards than the stuff with instruments, especially since that gap is rapidly closing. So instead I'll say that on ASTHMATIC GLUEHAZER, the blend of texture between the rhythmic portion with indistinct tonality and the guitar-noodling section indicates a thoughtful composition and an accomplished musician. PATTERN CONVERT I does the overly-fast tempo thing without becoming annoying, and the opening for STICK TRANSITION SOIL makes me think of jazzy, pre-drum solo stickwork.
